ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) - Part-time.

Who will the course suit?
The ESOL programme provides classes at five different levels from beginners through to Advanced level.

What entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements for the course.  Level studied will be decided in first meeting with course tutor.

How long is the course?
This course is run on a part-time basis over 15 weeks.  Starts throughout the year.

When will I be in College?
Learners will be in College one day/ evening per week.  For daytime classes you will be in College from 10am - 3pm and for evening classes 6pm-8pm.

How much study is involved?
Daytime learners will be taught for 6 hours per week and  evening learners will be taught for 2 hours per week. 

What will I study?
Daytime learners attain a Cambridge `Skills for Life` qualification.  Evening learners achieve an OCN qualification.

How will I be taught?
Lessons focus on everyday English and aim  to improve the learners` skills in all areas - speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar.  A course book plus a variety of other resources and techniques are used during class time.

How will I be assessed?
There are three Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life examinations, speaking and listening, reading and writing and these take place in January and June.  The OCN qualification required the learner to complete a portfolio of work during class time.

What opportunities will the course provide me with?
This course will provide learners with improved English Language skills which should provide opportunities for learners to progress on to other courses.

How much will it cost?
Due to changes in funding, prices for courses starting in September 2010 have not yet been set. As soon as prices are set they will be added to course information sheets on this website.

At this stage we are also unable to confirm which courses will offer a fee waiver for full-time students or those claiming means tested benefits.
