Pre-Apprenticeship Course – Full-time
(Examination Boards – BTEC, NVQ, City & Guilds, OCN)

Who will the course suit?
This course will suit learners who have an interest in a practical vocation such as Electrical/ Mechanical, Engineering or Plumbing.

What are the entry requirements?
This is a LEVEL 2 Course.

Every college course is given a level 1(lowest) – 5 (highest). This level helps you know what the entry requirements are and if it will be suitable for you. For part-time courses it also indicates the amount of study involved – for example an introductory course would be a lower level if there is not much extra study involved.

For all full-time courses and some part-time courses you will be invited to have an informal interview with the tutor. On all courses that interview, a successful interview is also an entry requirement for the course.

In the interview the tutor will see whether you have the potential to progress on the course. It is also a chance for you to find out more about the course.

How long is the course?
The course is run on a full-time basis over 1 year.

When will I be in College?
You will be in College for 3 ½ days per week for 35 weeks.

How much study is involved?
You will be taught in College for approximately 21 hours per week, some additional study will be required every week.

What will I study?
There are a variety of teaching methods used in the classroom and in workshop scenarios.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments include portfolios assignments and practical tasks.

What opportunities will the course provide me with?
The course will provide you with the recognised qualification in Engineering, equivalent of 4 GCSEs grades A* - C.

With this you can apply to many trainee and apprenticeships in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.  Other options include progression onto a second year Electrical Installations course a BTEC Award or further study in Plumbing Skills.

This course is designed to give you a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills, enabling you to make informed decisions about your future career.

How much will it cost?
All full-time FE courses are FREE, whatever your age or the course.
All you pay is £10 registration fee to the College.
 
All learners have the opportunity to apply for funding. This can cover the cost of the course and any additional costs that may be incurred from attending a course, such as travel, childcare or kit.
