Fancy getting creative?
Barry College has a large, exciting art and design department. You may want to get a qualification in art and build up a portfolio to progress onto a higher-level course or university. You may simply want to try something new, or develop an interest in art and have fun. Whatever your aim, if you fancy getting creative then Barry College art and design department have the answer. On full-time courses you can experiment with a range of media such as print-making, fine art, ceramics, graphics, 3D-design, stained glass, photography, textiles and more. If you have a specific area of interest you can choose one of our specialist courses such as multimedia or design crafts. Our part-time courses are very popular and allow you to try out a particular area of art and design, usually for enjoyment. All learners have the opportunity to take part in the many public art exhibitions during their course – this year this included an exhibition at the prestigious ‘Craft in the Bay’ in Cardiff Bay.

Where can it take me? This year, nearly all full time learners progressed onto higher level courses. These include the brand new Foundation Degrees in Graphic Communications, Ceramics and Textiles now being offered at the College - being the first of their kind in the country. This means people from across the area can achieve an Art and Design degree accredited by UWIC Cardiff School of Art and Design at Barry College.

Bethan Seymour, 17, Barry, BTEC National Diploma in Design Crafts “I have really enjoyed this course. My work was exhibited at Craft in the Bay and that was such a fantastic opportunity. I know I want to progress to higher education and I’m considering UWIC or Bath University or even staying on at Barry College now that they offer Foundation Degrees. It has given me so many opportunities”
Ami Patel, Barry BTEC National Diploma Art & Design “I came from school to study the BTEC National Multimedia. I loved art in school and liked the way the BTEC National qualification meant I could study the equivalent of 3 A Levels in Art & Design. Having completed the BTEC National I have now progressed onto the Foundation Degree in Graphic Communication in College, so I can get a UWIC degree, whilst staying at College with tutors I know. It also means I can live at home and not have the expense of going to uni”.
