Last year, 90% of full-time learners progressed after their course straight onto a higher level course or onto employment. Many learners gained apprenticeships with companies including: General Electric, Airbus, British Airways, Rolls Royce, Virgin Atlantic, National Power British Aircraft Systems…and many more.
Gareth Norman, 19, Barry Aircraft Engineering “I attended the ICAT Saturday Club during Year 11 when I was still in school. This inspired me to follow this career path and straight after school I secured a place as an apprentice in DARA, attending ICAT to gain my aircraft qualifications. Due to unforeseen circumstances in DARA, I was made redundant along with many others. However, I quickly secured a prestigious apprenticeship in Virgin Atlantic, of which there are only 10 per year in the UK. I intend to complete my B1 licence soon which will qualify me to certify aircraft for flying”.
Michaela Bonny BSc Aerospace Engineering “I have always been interested in Engineering. I did A Levels in Barry 6th Form, then did a degree in Teaching with Design. However, after completing it I still wasn’t sure whether I really wanted to do this. I realised that I wanted to pursue a career in Aerospace Engineering. I am now studying a University of Glamorgan degree in Aerospace at Barry College ICAT.”
