Are you interested in a career in the Sport and Fitness industry?

Barry College offers a large range of sport and fitness courses. There are courses if you are looking to start your career, as well as professional courses for those already working in the industry.

Our popular full-time courses give the skills and qualifications for starting a career in sport and fitness. These exciting courses all have a practical element. You often take part in off-site activities from team sports to outdoor action.  Lessons can also take place in the well-equipped College gym.  Nationally recognised awards such as Gym Instructor, Circuit Instructor, First Aid and National Pool Lifeguard Qualification are offered for learners to study whilst on courses.

Part-time courses are mainly for people working in sport and fitness. These courses help people in the industry further their careers. Some courses are also suitable for people who want to start a career in the industry, but cannot commit to a full-time course.

Where will it take me?
From full-time courses students progress into employment in leisure centres, sports facilities, health and fitness clubs, gyms and other related organisations. Many students also progress onto university to sports related degrees.

Last year all students gaining part-time sports and fitness qualifications said their course had either already improved, or they expected it to improve their career prospects.

Jenny Wade, 18, Barry
BTEC National Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences
“I have really enjoyed this course as it covers the biology behind sport.  I made lots of friends whilst at College – both in my class and with people from other classes.”

Jason Row, 20, Cardiff
BTEC National Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences
“I was always interested in sport at school.  I decided the BTEC National Diploma in Sport Science was the best option for me as I want to make a career out of sport.  The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and has a lot of practical work involved.  I plan to become a sport teacher and am considering going to university. College has been a great stepping stone to allow me to do this.”
